Correction: J.J.J's Sale Was Bigger Than We Reported — 6,148 Items, Not 3,472

On 6 September we reported that J. Junaid Jamshed had repriced 3,472 items in twenty-four hours, of which only 174 were in stock.

Both figures were wrong.

The real numbers

With the pass complete, that day's total is 6,148 items at an average cut of 43.9%. The in-stock portion is 355, not 174.

How it happened

We counted mid-scrape. J.J.J's pass was still running when the story was written, and we treated what had arrived by then as the whole day.

This is the same class of error the freshness rule we adopted in August was meant to prevent: a count is not complete until the pass is complete. That rule stopped the old failure and did not catch this new shape of it.

The conclusion does not change

The point of the 6 September story was that most of the sale could not be bought. That holds, and more strongly: of the 6,148 repriced items, 5,793 are not in stock — 94%.

But we made the brand look smaller than it was, and that is still an error. A wrong figure needs correcting whether it flatters the subject or not.
