The full series:

  • March 2026, 100.00 (base)
  • April, 99.27 (-0.71%)
  • May, 96.43 (-2.81%)
  • June, 87.94 (-8.80%)
  • July, 90.89 (+3.36%)
  • August, 87.16 (-4.11%)

By category:

  • Unstitched, 82.09 (-7.03%), the steepest
  • Fragrances, 93.28 (-7.26%)
  • Bags & accessories, 86.23 (-5.36%)
  • Footwear, 84.58 (-4.95%)
  • Ready-to-wear, 86.91 (-3.01%)
  • Jewellery, 94.84 (-0.69%), the most resilient

The index is built only from products present in both of two consecutive months, so new arrivals and delisted stock are excluded, a changing assortment cannot masquerade as a changing price.

A necessary caveat: Sana Safinaz (-12.86%) and Bonanza Satrangi (-9.94%) fell in August almost entirely because of our own correction, not the market. On 23 August we found both brands' prices were reaching us in a foreign market's currency; fixing that dropped their figures by very close to the same factor. Between them they are 14,393 of the 67,245 matched products, 21% of the sample. Neither brand is quoted in any August brand-level claim.

Figures updated, 2 September 2026: this story's index numbers were taken from a preliminary (dry) computation. The real run, and the subsequent removal of 2,347 faulty Sapphire rows, moved them slightly, August is 87.16 rather than 87.27, and -4.11% rather than -4.07%. The conclusions are unchanged: August is still the sharpest fall since May, still led by unstitched. These figures now match the index page.
