Pakistan's oldest fashion institution — the neighbourhood darzi — just got a prime-time slot. Hum TV's new 8pm drama Bombay Tailors is set in a tailoring shop established in 1942 in Karachi's Empress Market, Dawn Images reports.

The premise is the fashion economy's real tug-of-war in miniature: Ali Ansari plays Saifi, resisting family pressure to inherit the ancestral tailoring business, while Anika Zulfikar's Mahrukh chases content creation. Old thread, new feed. The ensemble is serious too — Sania Saeed, Ali Tahir, Ali Safina.

The look the darzi built: J. Junaid Jamshed formal kurta — Rs. 7,493, was Rs. 9,990

Why we're covering a TV drama: the darzi-vs-ready-made tension is the story of Pakistani fashion retail. Our own catalogue is the ready-made side of that ledger — 84,000+ stitched pieces in stock across 22 brands — while the show argues, in prime time, for the hands that used to make them one at a time.
