Whose Sale Is Real? Khaadi 100%, Generation 3%

Yesterday we reported that 64% of the market's sale is already sold out. Today we asked the same question of each brand separately — and the spread turned out to be wide enough that the average was hiding it.

The two ends

Khaadi — 668 of 668. Every discounted item Khaadi lists is in stock. The sale is small, but all of it is real.

Generation — 228 of 6,524. Ninety-seven percent of what appears to be on sale cannot be bought. It is the widest gap in the market.

A bigger sale is not a better one

The striking thing is that the table runs almost inversely to size. J. Junaid Jamshed (11,370 items) and Edenrobe (13,981) advertise the longest sales in the market and sit near the bottom at 7% and 19%. Khaadi runs the smallest and sits at the top.

This is not evidence of deception. A sale that runs a long time loses its best stock early and keeps the listing. But the shopper's conclusion is unchanged: the size of a sale says nothing about its usefulness.
