Blue Is the Most-Made Colour, and the Worst-Selling
For the first time we measured colour across all 22 brands on one scale. The finding is blunt: brands make most of the colour that moves slowest.
27 August 2026
Until this week our colour data was unusable — "maroon", "Maroon" and "deep maroon" counted as three different things. We have now resolved the colours on more than 800,000 variants into twelve families. It is the first time the whole market's colour can be read on one scale.
The first look says this:
- Blue — 16.8% of all stock, the largest share, and only 35% sold out — the slowest of any colour
- Yellow — just 8.2% of stock, and 48% sold out — the fastest
- Black — 16.6% of stock, 44% sold out
- Brown — 14.7%, 45%
- Orange — only 1.2% of stock, yet 41% sold out
Put plainly: the brands made the most of the colour that sells the least, and the least of the colour that sells fastest. Orange is barely in the market at all — one item in every hundred — and still outsells blue.
No single brand can see this. A brand sees only its own stock; it has no way of knowing how much blue is sitting unsold across the market. It only appears when 22 brands are measured together.
For shoppers: if you want yellow or orange, don't wait — less of it is made and it goes faster. Blue will be there all season, and will be discounted harder.
One exclusion: "multi" (printed) is left out of the ranking. It sits at 16%, but it is not a colour choice — it is what a brand writes when the fabric is printed.
Khaadi and Sapphire data is 61 and 34 hours old today, so neither brand carries a specific claim in anything we publish.
Data: TrendCompare 22-brand hourly tracker. Every figure counts only products confirmed on the brand's own site within the last 7 days. Discounts exclude inflated "was" prices (anchor ≤ 3× current). Full methodology.
