The stock figures in this story were wrong, and the fault was ours. Our scraper only updates what it can see on a brand's collection pages. When an item sells out and drops off those pages, the row is never revisited and stays flagged in stock. By 22 August that had reached 100,103 rows, 46,164 of which had not been seen in over ninety days.

The clearance has settled, the average discount has held at 41% for four days. The other side of the racks has not slowed at all. Over the past 48 hours, more than 2,100 new pieces arrived, all at full price.
