Today's clearest picture is the contrast: the old sale has frozen solid — one price changed in 24 hours — while new stock has not slowed at all. Over the past 48 hours more than 1,800 new pieces arrived, every one at full price.

One detail worth noting: among the new arrivals, lawn and cambric (388 items) still outnumber khaddar and velvet (108). The brands are waiting on the weather — the full winter range lands in late September. What is arriving now is mostly late-summer and transitional.
